How the PDF is built

Each image becomes one page. On A4 or Letter pages the image is centred and scaled down to fit inside the margin, and it is never stretched beyond its own size. With Auto orientation a wide photo gets a landscape page and a tall one gets a portrait page. Same as image makes each page exactly the size of its picture, which suits screenshots and pages you will only read on screen.

With Best quality, a JPG goes into the PDF unchanged apart from its metadata. The three test files, 942 KB in total, made a PDF of 970 KB. Smaller PDF saves each page again at quality 75 and limits it to 2000 pixels, which brought the same set to 290 KB.

Best quality keeps a JPEG exactly as it is, minus its metadata, unless it needs turning upright. Other formats become JPEG at quality 92, with white behind transparent areas. Smaller PDF saves each page as JPEG at quality 75 and limits the longest side to 2000 pixels. Writing the PDF itself took about 4 ms; the rest is image encoding. Page order

Pages follow the order of the cards. Use Up and Down on a card to move it. Add more images at any time and they join the end of the PDF.

Photos from a phone

Phones often save photos sideways with a tag that tells apps to turn them. A PDF ignores that tag, so those photos are turned upright before they go in. They are saved again in that case, and nothing else changes.

Scans and documents

  1. Photograph or scan each page on a flat surface in good light.
  2. Use Crop on a card to cut away the table or background around the page.
  3. Pick A4 and a small margin for something that will be printed.
  4. Pick Smaller PDF if an email or a portal has a size limit.

What the PDF contains

Only the pages. There is no title, author or software name written into the file, and the metadata of each photo, including GPS location, is removed. Each image counts toward the free limit of 10 images a day.

Questions

Can I add PNG or HEIC images to the same PDF?

Yes. Any image the site reads can be a page. PNG and HEIC pages are saved as JPG inside the PDF.

Is there a page limit?

The list holds up to 100 images, and the free plan processes 10 images a day.

Why is my PDF nearly as big as my photos?

Best quality keeps the photos untouched. Choose Smaller PDF to save the pages again at a lower quality.
